Benefits of Surah Al-Baqarah.

السلام عليكم

Actually i want to share something that is very useful to you all and of course also me =). I've been reading this book called "Tafsir Ibn Kathir" (Abridged) Volume 1.. Which is recommended by one of our (Dentistry student of Al-Azhar) doctor who teach us tafseer for this year =)..

Anyway surah Al-Baqarah is the second surah in the Qur'an after surah Al-Fatihah.. Al-Baqarah mean "The cow", which recall from the story of the golden calf worshipped as an idol by the Israelites  during Moses' absence in verses 67-73.

There are 286 verses, and yes it is the longest surah of the Qur'an.. And that is why Prophet (PBUH) once said that :
"Learn Surah Al-Baqarah, because in learning it there is blessing, in ignoring it there is sorrow, and the sorceresses cannot memorize it".
And also surah Al-Baqarah will be one of the lights on the Day of Resurrection..

However, back to the topic that what i actually wanna say is.. There is benefits when you learn, read, or hafaz it.. and....

The benefits are :

1- shaytan will not enter the house that surah al-Baqarah is recited..
In Musnad Ahmad, Sahih Muslim At-Tirmidhi and An-Nasa'i, it is recorded that Abu Hurayrah said that the Prophet (PBUH) said
"Do not turn your houses into graves. Verily, Shaytan does not enter the house where surah Al-Baqarah is recited"

And also Abdullah bin Mas'ud said that
"Shaytan flees from the house where surah Al-Baqarah is heard"

2- for those who recite ten verse from surah Al-Baqarah, Shaytan will not come near him or his family, or he will not be touched by anything that he dislikes.. The ten verse are :
1. Four from the beginning      = 4
2. a verse 255 (ayat al-kursi)  = 1
3. two verse (256-257)            = 2
4. Last three verse                  = 3
                                                    = 10

3- Shaytan will not enter the house for three nights/days.
Salh bin Sa'd said that Prophet (PBUH) said
"Everything has a high peek, and Al-Baqarah is the high peek of the Qur'an. Whoever recites Al-Baqarah at night in his house, then shaytan will not enter that house for three nights. Whoever recites it during a day in his house, then shaytan will not enter that house for three days"

4- The angels will come close to hear you reciting surah Al-Baqarah.
Al-Bukhari recorded that Usayd bin Hudayr said that he was once reciting surah Al-Baqarah while his horse was tied next to him. The horse started to make some noice. When he stopped reciting, the horse stopped moving. When he continued reading, the horse started moving again. Then when he stopped, the horse stopped. When he recite it again, the horse moved again. Meanwhile, his son Yahya was close to the horse. He feared that the horse might step on him. So he moved his son back, when he looked up to the sky and saw a cloud with lights.

The next morning he went to Prophet (PBUH) and told him what happened.
Then Prophet (PBUH) asked him "Do you know what that was?"
And he said "No"
The Prophet (PBUH) then said "They were the angels, they came close hearing your voice (reciting surah Al-Baqarah), and if you had kept reading, the people would have been able to see the angels when the morning came, and the angels would not be hidden from their eyes".

5-  Surah Al-Baqarah is one of the light and it will shade their people on the Day of Resurrection..  (as i wrote it before =))..

another light is Surah Al-Imran =)

6- On the Day of Resurrection, the Kingship will be given to those who recite it in his right hand, eternal life in his left hand and the crown of grace will be placed on his head.

7- A garments that people can never afford (even the billionaire) will be given to your parents on the Day of Resurrection ..
Your parent will then ask "Why were we granted these garments?"
It will be said " Because your child was carrying the Qur'an"

8- As long as you recites it slowly or quickly you will go on ascending through the levels of Paradise.
Hadith recorded by Ibn Majah
"Read and ascend through the levels of Paradise". " He will go on ascending as long as he recites, whether reciting it slowly or quickly".

9- On the Day of Resurrection the Qur'an and its people who used to implement it will be brought forth, preceded by Surah Al-Baqarah and surah Al-Imran

10- And also on the Day of Resurrection, The two surah (surah Al-Baqarah and surah Al-Imran) will come like two clouds, two dark shades or two lines of birds arguing on behalf of their people..

Well, this is it for now..  =)

p/s - i, myself did not really read it everyday.. since im not really good in reciting it, so it'll take very long time.. but i'll try my best to recite it when i have free time and also if i feel kinda lazy and etc i'll just read the 10 verse that i mentioned above.. =)
How about you?. i can do it, i bet you can do it too =).. Firstly try the 10 verse.. i know you can do it.. =D Chaiyok!

  2. I'd like to share a personal experience. As mentioned above in this article that the daily recitation of Surah Baqarah makes the jinns go away from our house. keeping it in mind I Recited it for two days and on the second day I got a warning from them in the form of severe infliction of fear over me just like a heart-attack. the entire environment of my house become hostile all of a sudden.
Upon consulting it with a elder mentor of mine, I realised that I was wrong. Allah has created Jinns ten times more than the population of Humans. And they are all over the place. Therefore we should respect their space. We got to live with a feeling that we are not the only beings living on this planet. We have to share it with plenty of other beings. Therefore instead of kicking them away, we should share the space with them.

    4. You must understand that there are 2 type of jinn, good jinn and bad jinn. The bad jinn are the ones that want to mislead us from the path of Allah and they do not like to hear the words of Allah. However, the good jinns are Muslims and they enjoy hearing Qur'an.

According to a hadith on the first Muslim jinns of this ummah that was narrated by Abdullaah ibn Abbaas, who said (As Reported by al-Bukhaari, 731).

Once when the Prophet Muhammed ﷺ was reciting Qur'an during the fajr prayer a few of the jinn were passing by and they stopped to hear his recitation. Then they went back and said:
"O our people, we have heard a wonderful Recital (the Quran). It guides to the Right Path, and we have believed therein, and we shall never join (in worship) anything with our Lord (Allah)". [al-Jinn 72:2 – interpretation of the meaning]. These were the first Muslim Jinn.

Hence, if we ever have any negative feelings when we read the Holy Qur'an, then we must struggle hard and do our best to overcome that feeling, because these negative feelings come from the bad jinn NOT the good jinn. They may also come from the sins in our heart. Thus, no matter what you feel keep reading and In sha Allah it will go away at some point and ask Allah to make it easy for you.

May Allah make it easy for us all to connect with His book.

      Ameen Ya Rabb

  3. Thanks for this very nice informative article. The benefits of surah Al-Baqarah are amazing.@Shaquielle, there are good and bad jinns in this world. But from my understanding of this article, only the bad ones, shaytans, will not come close. So, the Quraan can never be a bad thing to humans or jinns believers

  4. sister aliyah, salam, may allah bless you for your good efforts. I would just say that we should not add or delete in anything that has been passed to us by the Prophet (pbuh). If his hadith mentions 10 verses from Surah Baqara, we should not try to analyse what are those verses and let's leave it there and let everybody to recite any 10 verses that he likes because the Prophet did not put any constrain on him. If He wished, he would have done it.

    1. Although hearing it has a great advantage, reciting it has a far better advantage and is not considered the same as hearing it.

  11. Any hadith that will prove that how many verses we should read if we dont have much time

    1. If you feel like you do not have time to read the entire surah then try to atleast read 2 pages or 1 page or even half a page. Remember, Allah says that He does not want to burden us with more than that which we can bear (Al-Baqarah, Chapter 2, Verse 286).
Hence, try starting small then slowly try to increase the number of verses or pages you read.

But something you must keep in mind is that any time that is spent for the sake of Allah is an investment of our time. So when you make that extra time to read and understand the book of Allah, despite how busy you are, In sha Allah, Allah the Almighty will put barakah (blessings) in your time, and make it easy for you.

  13. I have about 14 years experience of reciting Surah Baqarah whenever I had fights in my house. Usually the fights and are because of satanic intervention and instigation, which we really are not able to understand. Surah Baqarah really helps drive away the evil and satanic spells, brings calm and harmony to our families and household.

  19. It has been 3 years since reciting this Holy Surah. I feel great changes not only in my thoughts, life but also at my home & in my family members too. It helped me to remove the consequences of hard black magic, evil eye, jinn & brought peace in my life & home too. It gives shifa whenever we feel sick due to Satanic activities in our home. I always blow it after completing it on me & my father who has severe backache problem & we both feel relaxed. I always blow it on water afterwards, we all family members drink from it & also sprinkle it in 4 corners of my home. It protects us from evil jinns and black magic. Many a times i found black cat in my house, & whenever i recite this surah or just sprinkle water, that black cat disappears suddenly. May Allah always give me toufeeq to recite this surah continuously. Aameen
